I need a new sofa for this beloved stress trap of a house. I need it so that I can decorate and organize around it. It feels like an incredibly fundamental next step in getting this project closer to that non-existent, "You are never really done" finish line. Just like all of the other amazing product searches... this one has left me in a maze of browser tabs. So what's the problem? Is it money? No, it isn't. It's the space. Of course I don't want to drop a real serious chunk of change on a sofa, but at this point I would if it was right. Unfortunately, I don't think I have found my unicorn sofa yet. I'm a little unclear why 108 is such a popular couch measurement but that is really the case. Here is where I've looked: Wayfair (Perigold, Wayfair, AllModern, Birch Lane) Interior Define Article West Elm Pottery Barn Crate + Barrell Bob's Discount Furniture Ikea World Market Jordan's Furniture Joybird What are the challenges:...
I feel as though finding a mirror is either incredible easy or damn near impossible. I put it akin to when you hear someone speaks five languages and are so impressed and then their response is "it just comes easy to me". For the three bathrooms in the house, they each presented totally different mirror opportunities.  + Master / Mirror actually came with the vanity and there were no space concerns + 1st Floor / Small amount of space and encroaching window. Mirror would never be centered. Additionally, there was a good amount of vertical space + 2nd Floor Hall / Needed to fit about a 30 inch vanity. Limited vertical space due to a structural beam and lighting placement.  But of the 3 bathrooms, the 2nd floor hall bathroom has been the big challenge. At this point, I have now bought 5 mirrors to try in this spot. I'm looking for the unicorn of mirrors apparently. Why has this spot been hard? I'll tell you. Vertical Space.  Horizontal Space Depth....
Yikes - it's been awhile since the last update. Maybe at this point they need to be monthly posts? There just isn't enough happening to warrant weekly. So what has happened in the last week? A major heat wave. As a result, pretty much nothing else. I haven't been that inspired to move anything because its too hot. I haven't been able to refinish furniture because its too hot. End result? Too hot. Kitchen -- In the past week, we finally finished the kitchen installation. For those keeping track, that was started in June. It's August. Just another small item off the to-do list. Alarm System -- The security system was also completed which means I now know anytime a door or window is opened. So no more secret visitors. I tried to install a Ring camera system but it was just not as good as Nest. It's unfortunate because I was hopeful for that but Nest is just too good. Couch -- Still at a loss on this one. I went to visit the Ikea couch that I was thinking ab...
Well this was a big week. Monday = Window cleaning + bonus electrical happened in the cellar Tuesday = movers showed up + first pizza delivery to the house Wednesday = screens went in windows Thursday = more boxes unpacked Friday = my birthday In addition to that, I discovered a bunch of boxes and furniture from the 2015 move into storage was missing. Honestly that was the biggest part of this week. It has been all consuming to try and follow-up on information. I'm trying to not write about it until there is a resolution, but its getting harder. Needless to say I'm very frustrated. As an upside, it is incredible how everything looks fairly natural in the house. The original dining table seems happy back in its spot. The merging of my apartment furniture and old house furniture is also going fine. There will absolutely be things that need to get purchased but hopefully none of them are new. I like to buy things that have stories attached to them - unless it's a be...
